No publisher was guilty of vampiric contagion as Fazi, whose publication of the Twilight saga has meant that the appeal of this creature of the night sick even the most unexpected. Il cavaliere di Villevert, dopo essere stato ferito nella battaglia di Rossbach, nel 1757, trascorre la convalescenza ospite del conte Erdelyi in Ungheria.
Il maniero del conte è frequentato da uno strano personaggio, il Barone Cornelius di Windau, il suo aspetto repellente e le storie terrificanti che adora raccontare turbano i già fragili nervi di Elisabetta, a noblewoman who, orphaned, lives at the Erdelyi.
Windau ask to marry Elizabeth, but when she rejects the proposal, the Baron declares that it is his anyway. The next day, the corpse of Windau will be found near a canal.
VIllevert, eliminated any claim of the Baron, successfully asked the hand of Elizabeth, but their engagement will not be a happy Windau appear at night at the bedside of the girl scared to death.
When the priest learned from VIllevert, the news of the apparitions at night in the room of Elizabeth, will organize the exhumation of the corpse of Windau and ritual exorcism against vampires.

Più interessante del resoconto è l’accurata prefazione che, dopo aver presentato l’autore e la sua controversa attività politica insieme alle circostanze della pubblicazione del memoriale, passa a un breve historical overview and critique of a literary figure of the vampire, ending with interesting observations on the vampire of today.
